Hiking the Long Canyon Trail will take you through the Red Rock- Secret Mountain Wilderness. Which is a total of 43,950 acres. This area is anything but secret however; many outdoor enthusiasts know about the hiking trails located here. Some trails are more popular than others- It just so happens that on the day I ventured out with my Meetup group that we didn’t see any other hikers until we were almost finished with our hike.
The visual delights are plentiful on this trail. You’ll see banana yuccas, agaves and junipers to cottonwoods, and ponderosas. Animals that live in the area that you are not as likely to see include bobcats, badgers, bobcats, mule deer and mountain lions. Flying above you will be ravens, red-tailed hawks, and Steller’s jays.
